OLED Provides the Best TV Picture Quality
TVs have evolved to offer larger screens, higher resolutions and thinner, lighter designs. All of this has resulted in improved TV picture quality. Up until recently, LCDs provided the best available TV picture quality. However, LCD TVs are now reaching the limits for further picture quality improvements. This is due to their fundamental transmissive nature that uses backlight and liquid crystals. In contrast, OLED is an innovative self-emissive display and hence is able to deliver the best TV picture quality.
OLED Outshines LCD Technology
OLED is a self-emissive solid state display technology where the sub-pixels directly emit light to produce images. On the other hand, LCD is a transmissive display technology that requires a separate backlight and liquid crystals. These liquid crystals allow it to control the amount of light passing through the screen and produce images. When it comes to controlling the light, liquid crystals are neither as accurate nor as fast as OLED, a state-of-the-art solid state light emitting device.
Advantages of OLED Display Technology
1. Perfect Black
OLED can produce striking black levels and infinite contrast ratios with deep and rich colors. This is because there is no light leakage that typically washes out both colors and contrasts on LCD TVs. See the screenshots below.
Black Levels and Light Leakage Screen Shots

The perfect black produced by OLED displays is visually striking, especially when watching dark picture content, such as movies or night-time sports. OLED can deliver both extreme white and black levels at the same time, and also hide the letterbox that appears on the border.
2. Wide Viewing Angle
Large screen TVs are watched by multiple viewers from various angles and positions. In this case, brightness, contrast, colors and black levels may appear differently. This is holds true even for a single viewer. Therefore, it is important that every viewer watching the TV see the same high picture quality regardless of their viewing position and angle.
OLEDs offer a very good viewing angle, so the TV picture looks almost the same for everyone watching the TV, not just the person sitting at the center sweet spot. On the other hand, LCDs show major differences in brightness, contrast, colors and black levels depending on the viewing position and angle. See the screenshots below.

3. Accurate Picture Colors and Picture Contrast
A TV display must produce accurate picture colors and brightness for all colors within its entire color spectrum, as well as accurate picture contrast. OLED TVs provide very high 0.7 JNCD absolute color accuracy and contrast accuracy with an intensity scale gamma of 2.17. When combined, these factors result in a picture quality that is visually indistinguishable from perfect.
4. Fast Response Times
OLEDs also have very fast response times. There is no motion blur for any picture content that moves or changes quickly on the screen, such as in most sporting events. In contrast, LCDs are well known to produce visible motion blur. This is because liquid crystals, which are the active elements in an LCD, are unable to respond quickly to rapid changes in the picture content. See the screenshots below.

Response time comparison between OLED and LCD TVs
Ultra HD 2,544 pixels per second motion with a 1/320th second screen capture.
Moderately fast screen motion that takes 1.2 seconds to move diagonally across the screen.
OLED Offers Unmatched TV Picture Quality
OLED now delivers the highest TV image quality. In terms of absolute picture quality and color accuracy, OLED TVs are visually indistinguishable from perfect. Even in terms of precise lab measurements, it is close to perfect, and OLED TVs break many TV display performance records. OLED also provides perfect black, infinite contrast ratios, very fast response times with no motion blur, and excellent viewing angles for watching movies and TV broadcasts including dramas, documentaries, and sports.
And for the future, OLED technology is leading the way for both transparent displays and flexible displays. OLED is and will remain the premier display technology for the foreseeable future. No other current display technology comes close.
